6 Travel Ideas Near Mysore Under 100 Kilometers

Like me, many of you must have crossed Mysore to go to the destinations like Coorg if you are starting from Bangalore. But, if you are okay taking a detour, you can visit these places as well. Each attractions mentioned here have a unique vibe to it. Here are my recommendations if you have a spare day while going to or returning for .

Mysore is famous for the magnificent Mysore Palace built by Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV, which looks spectacular when it is lighted during the evening. But the Mysore Palace is not Mysore’s only amazing tourist attraction. Here is a list of 6 unique tourist sites within 100 kilometers of Mysore.

Ranganatithu Bird Sanctuary

Distance from Mysore: 18 KMs

Ranganitithu Bird Sanctuary is actually an underrated attraction according to me. Spread over 40 acres of area, this sanctuary is home to 170 bird species. This includes many migratory birds from around the world. Ranganatithu is a short distance away from the holy city of Srirangapatna and can be easily reached from here.

Shrirangapatna

Distance from Mysore: 22 KM

Very close to Mysore lies the magnificent town of Srirangapatna, which is also a wonderful river island because of the  Kaveri river that flows around the town. The city is named after Ranganathaswamy Temple, which is the most famous tourist attraction of this area. The architecture of Hoysala and Vijayanagar has been intrinsically used while building the temple. Srirangapatna built by the Ganga Dynasty in the 9th century is one of the most important Vaishnav pilgrim centers in Southern India. The historic and cultural significance of this town makes it an important tourist attraction in Mysore.

Kabini

Distance from Mysore: 60 KMs

Kabini is located 5 kilometers from Mysore-Mananthwadi Road and is undoubtedly one of the most sought after wildlife sanctuaries in South India. Many rare and endangered species of birds and animals are found in Kabani Wildlife Sanctuary. A unique lake is found inside the sanctuary that enhances its beauty and is often the meeting point for many rare species of animals. If you plan your tour to the sanctuary between October and May, you will be able to see many animals like Indian bison, elephant, leopard gathered around the lake. The best part of the Kabini Wildlife Sanctuary is the boat safari.

Apart from the short trip ideas in and around Kabini, you can also visit here for rejuvenation and yoga. Ayur Yoga Ashram is one such option.  Spread in a sprawling 18 acres area, the ashram is located by the riverside. It offers a RYS certified, 200 and 300 hours yoga teacher training,  yoga retreats,  Ayurveda retreats and traditional Kerala Ayurveda treatments.

This gorgeous park is located in Chamrajnagar district on the border of Karnataka and is famous for its numerous wildlife.
