I’d budget around Rs. 4,000-5,000 for a taxi from Tirupati Airport to Horsley Hills in 2026. The roads are good, and honestly, the drive through rural Andhra Pradesh is quite pleasant once you leave the city traffic behind.

The enchanted world of caves promises magic and mystique to the explorers. If you are fond of exploring the dark and unknown interiors of the wonders of nature, then Belum caves promise you a myriad of other-worldly treasures. Located just 275 kilometres from Bangalore in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, these are the longest caves to be found on the plains of India. I would love to share certain things from my Belum Caves Day Trip.

Belum caves get their name from Sanskrit word Bilum, which means a hole. These magnificent caves were formed by the action of flow of water on limestone deposits for over millions of years. These caves are a treasure trove for stalactites, stalagmites, sinkholes, water galleries, and siphons. The locals were aware of these caves for thousands of years. However, the first official recording was done by Robert Bruce Foote in 1884. Robert was a British archaeologist and zoologist who carried out surveys for the Geological Survey of India.

The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation took over the maintenance of the caves in 1999. They cleared the debris and mud inside for constructing pathways. They also provided ventilation shafts and illumination for making the caves accessible to the public.

Belum Caves are the longest and largest cave system that is accessible to general public in India.  These caves are home to long passages, spacious caverns with fresh water and galleries. These caves are 3,229 m in length which makes them the second largest caves in the Indian subcontinent. There are 16 different pathways to this cave including the main entrance. The cave has rich deposits of quartz and black limestone.

Belum caves are quite important historically. There is sufficient evidence to prove that the caves were inhabited by Jain and Buddhist monks. The relics discovered in the caves date back to 4500 BC. The relics discovered have been housed in a museum in Ananthapur district. Remnants of several vessels have also been found in the caves that date back to the pre-Buddhism era.

If you are looking to go on a one-day excursion from Bangalore, then you need to head towards Belum Caves. It would take just 5 hours 30 mins to reach the caves from Bangalore. If you want to go on a relaxed holiday, then you can stay at Ananthapur and also explore other sightseeing places nearby. You can also catch a bus to a train to Ananthapur. Several buses ply to Belum Caves from Ananthapur. You will have to take a cab or a taxi from there to reach the caves.

There is no such season restriction for visiting Belum Caves. You can visit it any time and during any season. It is best to visit these caves early in the day as it tends to get more humid when the sun is at its peak. You can still enter the cave after afternoon but you may not be able to cover the entire length. You would require more than two hours to explore the caves completely.

Located at 60 km from Belum Caves, Gandikota is India’s small version of the Grand Canyon. This village is renowned for the spectacular gorge that river Pennar forms cutting the Eramala Hills. This beautiful locale is popular as the Hidden Grand Canyon of India by the visitors. There is a majestic fort that sits on the top of the gorge. Its beauty is unmatched. There is no noisy crowd around as this place has not yet been commercialized.    The fort was constructed during the 13th century and has been built from sandstone. The intricate carvings and the perennial springs are quite mesmerizing.

  • Yaganti Temple –

Located 45 kilometres from Belum Caves, Yaganti Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located in Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh. The temple was constructed by King Harihara Bukka Raya. As per a tale, Sage Agastya wanted to construct a temple for Lord Venkateswara on this site. However, the statue could not be installed as the toenail of the idol broke. The sage was upset and performed a penance to please Lord Shiva. Pleased with the devotion, Lord Shiva chose Yaganti Temple location for his temple as it resembled Kailash, the abode of Lord Shiva. Kurnool is one of the 100 places to visit near Mumbai as well.

  • Lepakshi Temple –

This temple is located 200 km from Belum Caves. This is quite a popular destination and can be covered if you are exploring popular tourist spots in Andhra Pradesh. The Veerabhadra Temple in Lepakshi is located in Ananthapur district. It was constructed in the 16th century. Its architectural style resembles the Vijayanagara style of architecture and has intricate carvings and paintings throughout. The walls have paintings of Ramayana and Mahabharata and also from the Puranas. There is a large Nandi (the mount of Lord Shiva) idol 200 meters away from the temple and it has been carved from a single block of stone.

  • Follow the guide who is assigned to you. He/she will share the history
    and interesting facts about Belum Caves
  • Carry water. All the humidity and walking would leave you exhausted.
    There aren’t any snack shops or water taps inside the cave.
  • Carry a hand towel if you tend to sweat a lot
  • There are no washrooms within the cave. Make sure to finish your
    business before entering.
  • Wear comfortable shoes as you would have to do a lot of walking
  • Stop at the shafts and try to breathe in fresh air if you do not want to
    feel suffocated throughout.

Once you land at Bengaluru Airport, here’s what I recommend:

  • Pre-paid Taxi: The most hassle-free option. Costs around Rs. 3,500-4,000 and takes about 3 hours depending on traffic. I always book these from the official counter at the airport.
  • Cab Apps: Uber and Ola work well too. Sometimes you get better rates, especially during off-peak hours.
  • Airport Bus to City + Local Transport: Budget option but quite time-consuming. Take the Vayu Vajra bus to Majestic, then catch a bus to Hindupur.

How to Reach Lepakshi by Bus: My Personal Favorite

I’ll be honest – traveling to Lepakshi by bus is my go-to choice. It’s comfortable, reasonably priced, and you get to see some beautiful countryside. The bus connectivity is excellent, especially from major cities.

Bangalore to Lepakshi Bus Timings and Routes

Take NH48 towards Bengaluru for about 350 km until you reach Hindupur, then it’s just 15 km more to Lepakshi. Total driving time is around 6 hours.

Nagarjuna Sagar Dam is a monumental structure. The reason is that it plays a crucial role in power generation and irrigation. You can find both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh State Road Transportation buses from different parts of both these states to take you to the dam site. For instance, you can find both private and state-run buses from different cities like Guntur, Vijayawada and Hyderabad. The travel experience by bus will be pleasant, with scenic views of the countryside.

By Train

If you would like to travel by train, the nearest railway station to the dam site is Macherla Railway Station. From this railway station, the dam is located at a distance of only 24 km. So, you can cover this distance by hiring a cab. Otherwise, you can also use public transportation to reach the dam.

By Flight

If you plan to choose flight travel, you can book flight tickets to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport from your hometown. From this airport, the dam site is located around 165 km away. However, you can find taxis and bus services from this airport to take you to the dam.

By Car

If you prefer to drive to the dam site, you can take well-maintained roads from nearby cities. Driving from Hyderabad will take around 4-5 hours. From Hyderabad, you will pass through attractive villages to reach the dam site by car.

Particularly, visiting the dam during the monsoon season will bring you an entirely different experience. You will be stunned by the mesmerizing sight of water peeping out through the 26 crest gates of the dam.

Nagarjuna Konda Museum

This museum is located on an island within the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam reservoir. You can get to see invaluable Buddhist artefacts and relics excavated before the dam was constructed in this region. As it is located on an island, you can reach the museum only by boat. Above all, the boat ride gives excellent panoramic views of the reservoir.

Ethiopathala Waterfalls

Afternoon: Submarine Museum 

Post lunch, visit the INS Kurusura Submarine Museum, a must-see attraction where you can explore a decommissioned submarine. It is open until 8.30 pm. So, you can spend your time at this place before you head to a restaurant for dinner.

Evening: Dinner and Local Markets

Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant, sampling Andhra cuisine known for its bold flavours and spiciness. Get back to your accommodation for a restful sleep. 

Day 2: Araku Valley

Early Morning: Journey to Araku Valley

Set off early for Araku Valley, a hill station known for its coffee plantations, about a 3–4-hour drive from Vizag. The journey itself, with tunnels, bridges, and lush landscapes, is an experience. From Vizag, Araku Valley is located at around 113 km. It is better to have around 5 hours as you might stop for breakfast and take pictures en route. So, start as early as possible.

Afternoon: Coffee Plantations and Tribal Museum

Visit a coffee plantation to learn about coffee processing and taste coffee. After lunch, explore the Tribal Museum, which showcases the culture and traditions of the indigenous tribes of the region. For lunch, you can choose one of the many best restaurants in Araku Valley. Examples include Hill Shine Garden Restaurant, Hotel Star Annapurna Multi Cuisine and Royal Darbar Restaurants. These restaurants are rated well by visitors. During my trip, I chose to have my lunch at Star Annapurna Multi Cuisine Restaurant. I should say about Captain Sunil at this restaurant. His service was extremely satisfactory for us.

Evening: Return to Vizag

Return to Vizag by evening. Spend time dining at a local restaurant of your choice. I would like to share a few options available in Vizag here:

  • Venkatadri Vantillu 
  • Bamboo Bay at The Park
  • Flying Spaghetti Monster

During this 10-day Andhra Pradesh itinerary, let us dedicate our third day to Rajahmundry exploration. It is located around 191 km away from Vizag. When you take the Chennai to Srikakulam Highway, you can reach Rajahmundry around 3 hours and 50 minutes. When the travel time is around 4 hours, reaching Rajahmundry might take even 5 or 6 hours. So, you can dedicate the third day of your 10-day Andhra Pradesh itinerary to travelling and checking into your accommodation in Rajahmundry. With this, you can relieve your travelling stress and prepare for the next day’s exploration at Rajahmundry.

Day 3 & 4 Spend at Rajahmundry 

Day 3: Travel to Rajahmundry

You will spend most of your time travelling from Vizag to Rajahmundry on the third day of your 10-day Andhra Pradesh itinerary. Before starting to Rajahmundry, you can finish your breakfast at Vizag. Then, you can start your trip. On your way to Rajahmundry, you can also finish your lunch before you check into your accommodation.

Indeed, you might have found the best dining option in Rajahmundry for your dinner on the third day. However, if you are thinking about the best restaurants in Rajahmundry, here are a few options available:

Visit the Dowleswaram Barrage, an engineering marvel at the lower stretch of the Godavari River. The surrounding area is ideal for picnics and leisurely walks.

After finishing the day’s exploration, finish your dinner in one of the restaurants mentioned above and get back to your accommodation for a restful night’s sleep. Let us dedicate the fifth and sixth day of your 10-day Andhra Pradesh itinerary to explore Vijayawada.

Day 5 & 6: Trip to Vijayawada and Exploration

Day 5: Journey to Vijayawada

Start the day 5 of your 10-day Andhra Pradesh itinerary with your breakfast at Rajahmundry. The drive to Vijayawada might take around 4-5 hours. The distance is around 160 km.

Day 6: Vijayawada Exploration:

Morning: Visit to Kanaka Durga Temple:

Start with a visit to the Kanaka Durga Temple, dedicated to Goddess Durga, located on the Indrakeeladri Hill. After the darshan, you can finish your breakfast near the temple.

Kanaka Durga Temple in Vijayawada is a prominent pilgrimage site, and there are several excellent restaurants nearby that cater to the tastes of visitors and locals alike. Here are some of the best restaurants close to the temple:

  • Southern Spice – This restaurant is known for its authentic South Indian cuisine, serving a variety of traditional dishes that reflect the local flavours of Andhra Pradesh. It’s a great place to enjoy a hearty meal after visiting the temple.
  • Sweet Magic – A favourite among locals, Sweet Magic offers a wide range of dishes, from traditional sweets and snacks to full meals, making it perfect for families.
  • Rasoie – This restaurant provides a comfortable dining experience with a menu that includes North Indian, South Indian, and Chinese options, catering to diverse palates.

After breakfast, you can get back to your accommodations and take some rest. After an hour or two you can go to Prakasam Barrage and Bhavani Island on this 10-day Andhra Pradesh itinerary.

Afternoon: Prakasam Barrage and Bhavani Island

You can finish your lunch at one of the restaurants mentioned above in Vijayawada. After lunch, visit the Prakasam Barrage, offering picturesque views of the Krishna River. Next, head to Bhavani Island, situated in the Krishna River, for some leisure time and water sports. 

After this, get back to your accommodation and spend your time taking a rest. After this, you can finish your dinner in one of the restaurants near your accommodation.  

Day 7 & 8: Amaravathi, Undavalli Caves and Trip to Tirupati

Day 7: Amaravathi and Undavalli Caves

Morning: Amaravathi

Drive to Amaravathi, home to the Amaralingeswara Temple and the Amaravathi Museum. The museum houses a collection of Buddhist sculptures and artefacts, highlighting the region’s rich Buddhist heritage. You can finish your breakfast in the middle of these explorations. You can find many quality restaurants near these popular attractions in Amaravathi. 

Afternoon: Undavalli Caves

Next, visit the Undavalli Caves, a fine example of Indian rock-cut architecture. These caves, carved out of solid sandstone on a hillside, date back to the 4th to 5th centuries. Make sure to finish your lunch near this attraction before you return to your Vijayawada accommodation. 

Evening: Return to Vijayawada

Return to Vijayawada for the night. Enjoy a relaxing evening by the riverfront, reflecting on the day’s explorations. If you have booked accommodation overlooking the river, you can spend this night in your accommodation too.

Day 8: Travel to Tirupati

As I am here to share a 10-day Andhra Pradesh itinerary, I feel that you should not miss out on a visit to the sanctum of the richest lord in India. Yes, I am talking about the Tirumala visit. Indeed, to get the darshan of the lord you should first reach Tirupati.

To reach Tirupati, you will have to travel around 414 km from Vijayawada. It will take around 7 hours. If not by road, you can also choose a train journey from Vijayawada to Tirupati. A train trip will take around 4 and a half to 5 and half hours based on the train you choose. Make sure to book your train tickets in advance to avoid last minute rush.

If you cannot book tickets on trains that reach Tirupati, you can book tickets on trains that reach Renigunta. From thereon, you can take local buses to reach Tirupati. Otherwise, you can also hire taxis from Renigunta to reach Tirupati. We will dedicate this day entirely to travelling from Vijayawada to Tirupati. After reaching Tirupati, you can travel to Tirumala. 

If you have travelled by car from Vijayawada to Tirupati, you can extend your trip to Tirumala on your vehicle. Otherwise, if you have travelled by train, you can hire a taxi to reach Tirumala from Tirupati. Spend your 8th night at Tirumala.

Where To Stay in Tirumala?

You can stay in one of the accommodations offered by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). However, remember that you can book this accommodation three months before your stay if you do it through the TTD App or Website. Similarly, you can book your darshan three months in advance. So, plan your darshan and accommodation accordingly. Otherwise, you can also find private accommodations in Tirumala, which will cost you more compared to the accommodations that TTD offers.

Day 9 and 10: Tirupati Exploration

Day 9: Darshan at Tirumala

If you have booked your darshan tickets in advance, you will have to report the time mentioned in your ticket. Accordingly, reach the reporting spot on this day on the slot mentioned in your ticket. You can book special entry darshan tickets via the TTD app or website three months before your visit. This will cost you Rs.300 per person. Based on the rush, the darshan time will vary. However, for Special Entry Darshan tickets, mostly, the darshan will happen within not more than 2 hours.

Where to Eat in Tirumala?

If you have booked your darshan in the morning, you will probably complete your darshan before lunchtime. So, you will look for the best restaurants in Tirumala. Dining options in Tirumala are predominantly centred around traditional vegetarian cuisine, given the religious significance of the area. Most restaurants and eating facilities are run by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) and cater primarily to the devotees visiting the temple. Here are some of the prominent places to eat in Tirumala:

  • TTD Free Meal Complex (Annaprasadam Complex) – This facility offers free meals to all visitors and is known for providing clean, hygienic, and nutritious food. The meals typically include rice, sambar, curry, and curd.
  • TTD Paid Canteens – Located at various points around the temple area, these canteens serve a variety of South Indian vegetarian dishes at very reasonable prices. Popular items include tiffins like dosa, idli, vada, and meals for lunch and dinner.
  • Hotel Mayura – Managed by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, this restaurant offers a slightly wider menu compared to the TTD canteens, including North Indian dishes in addition to South Indian cuisine.
  • Nitya Annadanam Canteen – Another popular spot for devotees, offering meals at subsidized rates. The food is simple, focusing on satvik (pure) ingredients without onions or garlic, adhering to the dietary restrictions of the temple.
  • Private Eateries – There are also a few small private eateries around the temple area, though options are limited. These places offer snacks and quick bites ideal for pilgrims looking for a quick meal between temple visits.

Due to the sacred nature of Tirumala, all food served is vegetarian, and the focus is on providing wholesome, simple meals to support the spiritual atmosphere of the pilgrimage site.

Evening: Explore Tirupati

After your darshan at the temple, spend your evening exploring Tirupati. Visit the local markets to shop for prasad (sacred food offered to the deity) like laddu, and other souvenirs such as religious books, idols, and traditional attire. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant, trying out the Andhra thali, a platter that offers a taste of the region’s culinary diversity.

Day 10: Darshan at Srikalahasti 

On day 10 of your 10-day Andhra Pradesh itinerary, you can explore the places around Tirupati. Srikalahasti is one such place. Thereafter, you can prepare for your departure.

Morning: Visit Srikalahasti

On your last day, make a trip to Srikalahasti, about a 2-hour drive from Tirumala. This town is popular for the Srikalahasti Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is a prominent temple for Lord Shiva in South India, known for its Vayu linga representing the element of wind. The temple’s construction and the intricate carvings on its walls and pillars are mesmerizing.

Afternoon: Leisure and Departure Preparations

After visiting Srikalahasti, return to your Tirumala accommodation for some leisure time. You can relax at your hotel or explore any local areas you may have missed earlier. This is also a good time to pack and prepare for your departure.

Evening: Departure

Conclude your 10-day Andhra Pradesh journey with a heart full of memories. Depending on your travel arrangements, head to the Tirupati airport or railway station for your onward journey, carrying with you the essence of Andhra Pradesh’s rich culture, history, and spirituality.

This 10-day Andhra Pradesh itinerary just scratches the surface of what Andhra Pradesh has to offer, but it promises a blend of experiences from serene landscapes and spiritual journeys to culinary delights and historical explorations. Andhra Pradesh awaits to offer you an unforgettable journey.

A Trip to Gandikota of India, NOT Grand Canyon

When I was younger, I visited Khajjiar with my parents. One of the many reasons why we included Khajjiar in our itinerary was the tour operators referring to it as mini Switzerland. Well, for unsuspecting travelers like us who hadn’t been to Europe, this sounded very appealing. After listening to the travel agents call it the Switzerland of India, I was very excited. But, upon visiting Khajjiar, I was extremely disappointed. It was too dirty and the lake had no water in it but rather a heap of plastic bottles. Similarly, calling Coorg the Scotland of India is probably one of the reasons which made Coorg so popular. Just like Khajjiar and Coorg, Gandikota is referred to the Grand Canyon of India. In case, you are planning a trip to Gandikota, read on to gain some valuable insights.

Now there might be different reasons behind the comparison. But, I believe its unfair to compare our Indian destinations with the so called western “counterparts”. Most of the online travel websites have curated at-least one blog post in which they say that ‘Oh, you know what? You don’t need to go to Switzerland! You can just go to Khajjiar’ or ‘Oh, are you planning to go to Scotland? Why don’t you go to Coorg instead!’

Well, I call bull shit on that.

I don’t blame these travel websites though. They have their business goals linked to these blog posts. It’s a sales funnel. You are scrolling down your feed on Facebook and suddenly see an article which talks about 23 Indian places which are similar or even better than their international counterparts. “Oh my God” you’d think “Let me click on this and not miss out”. Yes, they just played you on your fear of missing out. The next thing you know, you are scrolling through their article and being bombarded by ‘Book Now’ Call to action buttons. Out of 100 people, 2 may book. Did you see what just happened? They got business through a click-bait title!

Boom!

So, what’s my point?

Let’s revel in the original beauty of our Indian destinations and not compare them with international counterparts. Frankly speaking, I don’t mind Ooty being called the Queen of Hill stations. Why? Because it’s not pitting Ooty against some European landscape. What I do mind is someone saying ‘Why do you want to go to Grand Canyon?’ Just go to Gandikota instead!

Now in some cases, the international destinations are way too beautiful than our Indian ones. For example, I am pretty sure Switzerland would be way better than Khajjiar.

Did I just call some International destinations better than Indian ones? Well, yes I did because they are! And I am not running a travel website to generate business, but just a blog. Also, I like to call a spade, a spade

But, at the same time some Indian destinations are definitely better than the international ones. I have no doubt that Kerala backwaters are way more beautiful than Venice canals. Also, our Himalayas can definitely give a tough competition to the French Alps.

But, irrespective of which one is better, let’s just stop comparing our Indian destinations with the international ones. Let’s take some pride in our own places, shall we?

Anyways, thank you for reading my rant. Now, let me share my experience of visiting Gandikota, NOT the Grand Canyon of India.

My Trip to Gandikota

Frankly speaking, I have started to find destinations in South India very similar to each other. In the last 4 years, I must have been to all these hill stations multiple times. So, when we started to plan a trip to Gandikota, I got really excited.

Gandikota is unique in itself. Even though the landscape is rocky and very similar to Hampi, the gorge view is what sprinkles the unique flavor.

I visited Gandikota for just 2 days with my friends. It was a weekend trip and frankly, Gandikota doesn’t need more than 2 days. It’s a long drive from Bangalore, 282 KM. So, it may feel a bit hectic. However, we had decided to not waste a lot of time on the road and ended up reaching Gandikota around 2 PM, which is pretty decent according to our standards.

Day 1

We reached Haritha Resorts, by AP Tourism. However, we were not able to reserve the rooms in advance. So, we stayed in camps instead. These camps were located in the Haritha resorts premises only. While staying in these camps, we had access to the resort’s common washroom and restaurant.

Looking for a vantage point to see the Gorge view

As the evening Sun started its journey towards the horizon, we reached the Gorge view. The faint orange light of the setting Sun brightened the rocky walls paving path for river Penna. The river we saw was about 300 feet as it narrows down from a massive water body before entering the gorge.

This Gandikota Gorge view point was definitely way above my expectations. There have been many instances when I get disappointed after visiting a place. The credit goes to some travel bloggers who use flowery language for every place they visit. But this Gorge view didn’t disappoint me at all. Not because it’s mesmerizing, alluring or jaw-dropping. But it’s unique; the likes of which I haven’t seen in India. I have always been a huge fan of massive landscapes which make humans look like a speck. Landscapes which make me realize how tiny our egos are. The Gandikota gorge view was a vantage point for one such landscape.

If you are looking at the Gorge view, your back will be facing west. So, when the orange light stopped reflecting off the gorge walls, we ran in the opposite direction to discover a vantage point to see the Sun set at the horizon. Until now, we just saw the Sun disappearing behind fort ruins.

After jumping some rocks and crossing a dilapidated fort structure, we were able to find a spot to see the Sun set its journey towards the other side of the horizon. The frame resembled one from childhood paintings, the only thing missing was a hut.

And, there’s your proper Sunset! Mountains, Horizon and a perfect V shape to accommodate the Sun

We reached back to our camps and had an early dinner. The tents were too hot to stay in. So we just laid down on our mattress after pulling them out of the tent. Most of us thought it would be a great idea to just sleep in open. But when the creepy crawlers started marking their territories on our bodies, we knew our idea was flawed.

Day 2

If the Sunset happened behind our backs while facing the Gorge view, the Sunrise would obviously take place over the Gorge. Now that would be a perfect Sunrise setting, wouldn’t it? The Sun slowly appearing from where the river enters the Gorge. We woke up at 5 AM and just when the faint light appeared at the horizon, we had reached the Gorge view. The orange glow was taking over the horizon in the shape of an inverted triangle.

I sat at a vantage point, waiting for the Sun to appear and gradually it did. Oh, so gorgeous! The Penna river below was reflecting the Sun rays and painting the moments in a fascinating shade. I wasn’t sure if the Sun would appear from above the gorge, but it did. It appeared right over the river and I realized how happy it made me. Sometimes, traveling presents me with such small things and instances that leave an everlasting impression on my mind. The Sunrise at Gandikota was certainly one of them. These moments make me realize why I love traveling so much!

The Gandikota Gorge views looks absolutely stunning at the Sunrise. The strong winds, surrounding silence and a gorgeous Sunrise curated a combination which I loved!

This pic shows how people like to indulge in something so grand. Some prefer to sit & relax at a vantage point while some go hiking and seeking adventure, as if trying to get as close to the Sun as possible. Which one would you be? I love adventure, but in that process of finding adrenaline, I didn’t want to miss the stunning Sunrise. So, I let the nature lover triumph over the adventure enthusiast in me.

Once the Sun started to dominate the horizon, it was time to go. We were supposed to reach Bangalore today itself and a friend was not feeling well. So, we didn’t stay back for lunch at the resort and left for Bangalore.

The other attractions at Gandikota are in proximity to the Gorge view. So, we didn’t have to spend any additional time to see them. Frankly speaking, there was nothing much to see apart from the Gorge view of Gandikota.

All in all, visiting Gandikota was a good decision. It gave a change from the mainstream hill stations of South India and also offered a unique view point, the likes of which I haven’t seen till date. The best part of Gandikota is, it hasn’t been commercialized as compared to its potential. So, there are no restrictions here. In fact, you can camp wherever you want around the vantage points offering you a view of the Gandikota Gorge view. So, you should go to Gandikota before someone slips and falls in an attempt to take selfie. I hope that doesn’t happen to anyone, but you know these selfie daredevils, right?

Some time back, Avalabetta near Bangalore was also pretty unknown to regular folks. But recently, from what I have heard, the authorities have  installed a barricade at the protruding rock due to the increase in tourist rush. Before something like that happens at Gandikota, you better visit it soon.

So, that was my experience of visiting Gandikota. Below, I have answered some questions that might arise while planning Gandikota trip.

From my experiences above, you might have understood that Gandikota Camping is altogether a different experience that you should not miss out on. When you camp in resort rooms, the costs are very high. Indeed, at Haritha Resorts, you will pay only Rs.2000 for an AC room during weekends. At the same time, camps will charge you Rs.3500 per person. Indeed, camping includes meals. However, the meals will be basic.

Rather, Gandikota camping will give you a different experience when you hire tents. You can go camping with these tents somewhere near the Gandikota George view. You can find Gandikota campsite and they are offered mainly for tourists like you.

Natural Beauty

Gandikota Canyon boasts a dramatic landscape with deep gorges, rocky terrain, and the Pennar River flowing through it. The canyon’s layered rock formations create a mesmerizing sight, especially during sunrise and sunset when the colours change dramatically.

Historical Significance

Not only Gandikota Gorge, the area is also home to Gandikota Fort, a medieval fort built in the 13th century by the Kakatiya dynasty. The fort offers a glimpse into India’s rich history and architectural heritage, with its impressive structures and strategic location.

Adventure Activities

For adventure enthusiasts, Gandikota offers opportunities for trekking, rock climbing, and camping amidst the rugged terrain. Exploring the canyon on foot or by bicycle allows you to fully immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Grand Canyon of India.

Other attractions in Gandikota apart from Gorge view

Apart from the Gorge view, you will see Charminar, a Juma Mosque, and some fort ruins. If you are going to the Gorge view, you will see these attractions by default. If you hike around the Gorge, you will be able to discover the Fort wall and something which appeared to be a road which might have led to the riverbed in past. However, now it is pretty much closed due to the rocks and bushes around.

There are a couple of more experiences to indulge in in case you are visiting Gandikota for a longer period. There is a hike which leads to the river bed. At the end of the hike you might find yourself at a secluded corner of the river. That might be a good experience. But, it would be a descent hike, hence the views from the river bed might not be as grand as seen from the vantage point.

There is a dam built on River Penna and you can visit here as well. To go here, you just to need to take a 3-4 KM detour. Again, nothing that will blow your mind.

While coming to Bangalore from Gandikota, we decided to visit Thimmamma Marrimanu by taking a 40-50 KM detour. It is apparently the World’s biggest banyan tree. However, the authenticity of this remains unclear.  But, either ways, I would not recommend visiting Thimamma Marrimanu. There’s nothing there. It’s not always that taking the offbeat path leads you to something amazing. That’s what happened with Thimamma Marrimanu. It may look interesting to an environmentalist or ecologist. But to us, it was nothing great.

How many days are required for Gandikota?

2 Days should be enough. The highlight of Gandikota is witnessing the Sunset and Sunrise from the Gorge view. The other attractions are very close-by and you don’t need to mark additional time to see them.

However, it’s 281 KM from Bangalore. So, you will have not more than 24 hours at Gandikota if you plan a 2 day trip. So, you can take a call accordingly.

Where to stay at Gandikota?

There are very few options when it comes to staying in Gandikota near the Gorge view. Ideally, you should stay at Haritha Resorts, a property by Andhra Pradesh Tourism. The property is very close to the Gorge view of Gandikota and the other attractions. However, as many government resorts, this one also gets fully booked much in advance.

So, the other option you have is booking camps with Freakouts.com.

Now, frankly speaking, I would not recommend camping over resort rooms. The rates are too high! At Haritha Resorts, you will pay Rs 2000 for an AC room on weekends. While in these camps, you will pay Rs 3,500 per head! That’s Rs 7,000 for 2 people.

Now, the camping package includes meals and activities. The meals are very very basic, same as what you get at the resort as they have tied up with them. In activities, you have Kayaking, Rappelling & Rock climbing. Now, Kayaking through the Gorge sounds exciting, doesn’t it? But, they conduct Kayaking at a Dam nearby, not through the gorge. These activities aren’t worth the price and experience. They have bonfire also included in the package. But, because this campfire is lit within the resort area itself, you can enjoy it even though you are staying in the resort.

But, you think camping sounds good, don’t you? So just rent tents and go camp anywhere near the Gorge view! No need to book through Freakouts.

How to Book Haritha Resorts at Gandikota?

To book Haritha Resorts, you can visit their website here. Create an account and login to check availability for their Gandikota resort. Enter your dates and check availability. The rates for an AC room is Rs 1500 on weekdays and Rs 2000 on weekends. The resort is basic and you shouldn’t expect a lot of luxuries. The kitchen staff can barely communicate in Hindi & English. The food is basic but you can ask if they can prepare something special for you if possible.  The staff will get alcohol for you if you tell them in advance. If you don’t tell them in advance, you will have to count on your luck, in case they have some beers.

Is it possible to pitch your own tents at Gandikota?

Absolutely! In fact, this is the best option. You can pitch your tent right at the Gorge view. You can literally wake up, peek out and see a gorgeous Sunrise conjuring above the gorge view. Pitching your own tents will be economical as well. You can use the public washroom located close by if you don’t want to attend the nature calls in nature. For meals, there are a few shops nearby and Haritha resorts isn’t far as well.

Should I visit the Gorge view at Sunrise or Sunset?

Sunrise, hands down. When the Sun appears over the gorge, the orange sky and its reflection on the river looks beautiful!

What is the best time to visit Gandikota?

In summer, it would be too hot. So, winters should be a good season. Monsoon would be good fun, but the rocks might be slippery if it rains, so don’t get too adventurous.

How are the roads leading to Gandikota?

The roads are pretty sorted. But, if you take a shortcut, you will go through some villages and it might get a bit rough there. Otherwise its highway all the way. However, the shortcut saved us an hour roughly. I will leave this to Google maps.

What are the other places to visit near Gandikota?

You can go to Belum Caves which is located at a distance of 61 KM from Gandikota. We weren’t able to go because a friend was not feeling well. However, he started recovering so we took a slight detour and visited

Araku Valley is well connected by different modes of transportation from Vizag. So, regardless of your city of origin, you can book any mode of transportation to reach Vizag. From Vizag, you can choose a convenient mode to reach Araku Valley. Here are the transportation options available to you:

By Bus

There are direct buses to Vizag from different cities in India. So, you can reach the coastal city. From Vizag, the Andhra Pradesh Road Transportation Corporation operates many buses. You can even find luxury buses connecting Vizag and Araku. So, you can reach the valley within 3 or 4 hours by bus from Vizag.

By Train

Similar to buses, the Indian Railways operates trains to Vizag from different Indian cities. The travel hours will vary based on the city from which you are travelling by train. Once you reach Vizag, you can catch another train to reach Araku. Even, you can book train tickets from Vizag to Araku through the official website of IRCTC when you book your train tickets to Vizag. Similar to bus travel, the train travel from Vizag will take around 3 to 4 hours.

By Flight

Visakhapatnam Airport is an international airport that has a terminal for domestic flights as well. So, you can conveniently book your flight tickets. From Vizag, you can book a cab to reach Araku Valley. Even, you can travel by train or bus based on your convenience and budget.

By Car

If you are travelling from South Indian cities, you can drive your car from your hometown to Araku Valley. You might have direct routes from your city to Araku avoiding Vizag. Otherwise, you can reach Vizag for a relaxing stay. Then, you can drive from Vizag to Araku. This drive will be a delightful experience as you will pass through lush landscapes and scenic ghats. The journey will take around 3-4 hours. It is better to plan your drive during the daytime. Only then, you can get the best views.

To Become a Hub for Web 3.0, Dubai Adopts Crypto Law

The Emirate of Dubai has passed its first cryptocurrency law and established a regulatory agency to oversee virtual currencies. This is in response to the emirate’s efforts to establish itself as a world leader in emerging technologies like bitcoin and distributed ledger technology.

The Dubai Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority, which will collaborate with all connected entities to enhance security and transparency for cryptocurrency investors, has been established in the emirate of Dubai, within the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence of the United Arab Emirates made the announcement.

The United Arab Emirates is a federation of seven emirates, with Dubai serving as the area’s financial powerhouse. As regional economic competition intensifies, Dubai has pushed for the establishment of virtual asset regulation in order to attract new forms of industries to the region.

According to a statement carried by official media, the Dubai Virtual Asset Regulation Law aims to develop Dubai and the United Arab Emirates as regional and global destinations for the virtual asset market.

Crypto law

According to expectations, the rule would be implemented throughout the emirate with the exception of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), which operates as a special economic zone and falls under the jurisdiction of the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA).

The Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) has said that it will be developing its own guidelines for the regulation of cryptocurrencies in the DIFC in the near future.

In a similar vein, the Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA), the UAE’s securities regulator, has indicated that it is developing its own regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies, which it expects to publish in the near future.

With the law now in effect, it effectively establishes a legal mandate for the sale and trade of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin in Dubai, in contrast to the policies of many countries such as China, which are opposed to such activities.

What are Dubai’s Plans?

As part of the new law, the UAE intends to establish a Dubai Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA), which would be responsible for overseeing and regulating these types of assets.

It is also expected to function as an independent authority under the Dubai World Trade Centre Authority, which will be in charge of overseeing the regulation, governance, and licensing of cryptocurrencies, non-financial tokens, and other virtual assets, among other responsibilities.

A number of key functions of the VARA include overseeing and controlling the trading of virtual assets, as well as ensuring that high standards of protection are in place, as well as monitoring transactions.
The VARA is also responsible for the transfer of virtual assets, the provision of management services, the provision of exchange services, the operation of virtual asset platforms and the provision of virtual asset custody.

Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority Roles

The law on virtual assets has been established, and the Dubai Virtual Asset Regulatory Authority will be in charge of overseeing and implementing it (VARA).

It is planned that, under the supervision of the VARA, the following methods will be used to achieve virtual asset regulation in Dubai:
• VARA would be established solely for the purpose of regulating cryptocurrency activities and related service providers.
• VARA would be tasked with the oversight of the trading and issuance of virtual assets and virtual tokens, among other responsibilities. Additionally, the organization will be in charge of approving and regulating virtual asset service providers (VASPs).
•The regulatory authority is responsible for ensuring that the personal data of beneficiaries is protected to the highest possible level.
• It must also keep track of virtual asset transactions in order to prevent price manipulation from occurring.
• Crypto trading platforms that facilitate the exchange of cryptocurrencies for fiat currencies as well as between one or more cryptocurrencies would be subject to VARA’s authorization and regulation.
• The companies that provide cryptocurrency transfer, custody, and management services would also fall under the ambit of the new law and would be subject to its regulations.
• Aside from the state-owned financial free zone, Dubai International Financial Center, the new law will be applicable throughout the entire city of Dubai (DIFC).
• The DIFC’s financial services regulator, the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA), is developing its own cryptocurrency rules. It will be the single authority in the UAE mainland for licensing, supervising, and managing virtual assets activities and services issued for investment purposes.
• This will not include virtual assets that are used to make payments to other individuals or businesses in the UAE.

Dubai has been gaining ground with the crypto community

Many members of the web3 community have already expressed their preference for the country. The Dubai Media Office announced in December of last year that the Dubai World Trade Center will be designated as a crypto zone, from which all enterprises engaged in the trading of cryptocurrencies and virtual assets would be able to operate.

It was announced at the time that the city will create “rigorous rules” for investment safety and to prevent money laundering through a statement from its media office.

In conclusion, it is crucial to note that this law, which will be in effect from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette, establishes the responsibilities of the Virtual Asset Regulatory Authority (VARA), which includes the regulation, supervision, and control of virtual asset services.

It also specifies that the authority is tasked with organizing and establishing the rules and controls that govern the conduct of virtual asset activities, such as management services, clearing and settlement services, as well as classifying and specifying the types of virtual assets that may be traded.

According to the law, it is unlawful for any individual in the emirate to engage in activities without first obtaining authorization from VARA, and anyone intending to engage in virtual asset activities must first establish a physical presence in Dubai in order to conduct business.
