One could visit this place either in the monsoon and pre-monsoon season, which is during the months of June, July, August, and September; or also during winter from October to January. Both these seasons offer a great view and one would experience magic in the forest mist.

How to get to Andharban?

The Andharban trek begins in Pimpri village, which is found on the outskirts of Pune city.

Flight – You could catch a flight to Pune, which is well-connected to all major cities in India and then travel to Pimpri village by car.

Road – Lonavala is only a mere 50 km from the Pimpri village. Buses and cabs ply all-year-round to Lonavala. If you’re traveling from Mumbai, simply drive to Pimpri in a cab; or if you are coming from other parts of India, try coming to Pune and then hiring a cab.

Rail – The train options from Mumbai to Pune and Lonavala are endless. Most trains that come from the south to Mumbai have stops at Pune; and if you are coming from the North of Mumbai, try the Hazrat Nizamuddin Express.

The Independent Point near the Pimpri Dam marks the beginning of the trek. For ease, you can opt to hire a local travel guide to accompany you through the trail. You should ideally start trekking early in the morning. The climb up is comfortable and fun, covered with lush green trees and an abundance of water streams. You will be enthralled by the backwaters of the Bhira Dam. After this, the trail leads you to some open poppy fields.

At this point, take a moment to soak in the beauty of the Kundalika valley before you enter the depths of the dark forest. Remember to take small breaks at stops like the Bhirdi village before moving towards the Konkan route.
