7 Places to visit near Delhi to experience snowfall

There can hardly be a better winter getaway than hill stations and snow capped mountains. Amidst the pure white snow, you already feel like a character of a fairy tale waiting to be written. There are quite a few amazing winter getaways near Delhi that can rev up your weekends in the winter season. If you haven’t seen snow before, you should go for a vacation now to pamper yourself. Reach Delhi first and pamper yourself at a luxury hotel like Hyatt Regency. After that, you can head to any of these recommendations.

If you are staying in South India, you can look at opt for either Bangalore, Hyderabad or Chennai to Delhi flight. There is a very high flight frequency between Delhi and South India these days.

Kufri, near Shimla:

Lying at 340 kilometres from Delhi, Shilma is a paradise. The snow capped mountains, the magnificent mountain lakes & the pine trees paint a surreal picture that captivates the imagination of the tourists. If you are the adventure loving type, then you can indulge in ice-skating, skiing and rafting. Alternatively, you can spend a lazy weekend building snowman and taking pictures of the pines covered in snow and the hypnotizing surrounding.

Mussoorie:

Situated in the foothills of the Garhval himalayan ranges in the picturesque state of Uttarakhand, Mussoorie is the perfect winter getaway with its snow-capped alpine trees and the beautiful mountain ranges. Mussoorie is also known as the gateway to the Gangotri & Yamnotri shrines. Seated at a height of 2290 meters Lal Tibba is the highest peak in Mussoorie and offers a grand view of the mountain housing the sacred shrines of Kedarnath and Badrinath. Kedarnath is one of the 12 Jyothirlingas in India. You can also visit the magnificent Kanatal and Dhanaulti on the same route.

Auli:

If you are thinking of skiing during this winter, then you must be thinking of Auli. Located at a height of 2500 meters in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand Auli is famous as a skiing destination and is also known as Auli Bugyal among the locals, which means meadows. Auli falls en route to Badrinath and gives you a great view of the Mt Nanda Devi situated at a height of 7816 meters. The distance between Delhi and Auli is around 506 kilometres.

Almora:

If you are looking for a winter tourist spot near Delhi where you can spend time amid snow but away from the crowd, then Almora, fits the bill. Almora is situated on the mountains of Kumaon in Uttarakhand at a height of 1,642 meters and provides a breathtaking views of the snow-capped Himalayan ranges. Although historians believe that King Kalyan Chand had established Almora during his reign, many locals believe the place was inhabited even during the time of Mahabharat. Almora lies at about 361 kilometers from Delhi.

Kausani:

Located at around 414 km from Delhi, Kausani is in the picturesque state of Uttarakhand. It is situated at a height of 1890 km and is considered a great destination to travel during winter. Kausani is the birthplace of the famous poetess Sumitra Nandan Panth. You can spot the peaks of Nandadevi, Panchchuli, Nandakot and Trishul from Kausani. While writing his book Anasakshi Yoga, Mahatma Gandhi stayed for 15 days in Kausani.

Khajjiar:

Located 573 kilometers from Delhi and situated at an altitude of 1920 meters in Himachal Pradesh is the famous tourist spot of Khajjiar. Khajjiar’s mesmerizing natural beauty makes it a unique travel destination. The lush green valleys, the snow-clad mountains and dense jungles of Khajjiar hypnotize the tourists. The Chamera and the Khajjiar lakes present here add to its beauty. When in Khajjiar, you can visit the holy shrine of Khajji Naga temple.  Khajjiar is also a great place to plan trekking expeditions.

Narkanda:

Famously known as ‘Gateway to Apple Country’, situated in the middle of the valleys of Sutlej and Giri in Himachal Pradesh lies the unique tourist destination of Narkanda. This place is located at approximately 403 km from Delhi. Narkanda houses apple factories and is also the center of apple trade. Located at an elevation of 8100 feet, Narakanda is a popular tourist destination for its snowy mountains and winter sports activities.
