Shilparamam is a traditional craft village located in Madhapur region of Hyderabad. The basic objective of building this village was to conserve as well as preserve the regional traditional craft work. This entire beautiful village is located amongst mesmerizing waterfalls and breathtaking greenery. The village in itself is divided into sections to portray each and every region of the country. In addition to preserving regional arts, the village also has a rural museum, a library,   a recreational center, an auditorium, an art gallery, R & D center, a craft museum, rock museum, a cultural museum as well as boating activities to entertain its visitors.

Shilparamam was established in the year 1992 by the government as a means of motivating as well as promoting the local artisans to conserve their art forms. Shilparamam is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Hyderabad as the entire village represents the different traditional art work by skilled artisans from the entire country. There is no better destination than Shilparamam for art lovers. The village is spread across 60 acres of land and also houses several performing artists. The lush greenery surrounded with beautiful sculptures and buildings make it an ideal place to go for long walks.

Shilparamam also houses an educational center where several artisans conduct different kinds of workshops and training classes to train and promote different art work. During the first 15 days of March, this village also hosts an annual festival of crafts as well as arts. This festival was started in 1995 and since then every year several artists from all across the country come and participate in it.

During the Sankranti Sandadi festival and the Dussehra festival, various activities are held in Shilparamam. The village is known for celebrating all the festivals such as Navarathri, Ugadi in an extremely traditional way. A battery operated car is always available in Shilparamam to offer you a tour of the village at an economical price.

You can visit Shilparamam at almost any day of the year. However, if you visit the place during any festival it gives you a whole new experience. Open all the days of the week, the time to visit Shilparamam is between 10:30 AM to 8:30 PM. The ticket fare for an adult is around Rs.40 while the same for children is around Rs.20 per person.

Shilparamam is very well connected with roadways to the rest of the country. The nearest airport from Shilparamam is in Hyderabad. The distance between Shilparamam and Hyderabad is just 14 kms.  You can hire a taxi or take a private taxi to reach Shilparamam. Several buses are operated by APSRTC which travel to Shilparamam.  Even if you opt for rail services, it would hardly take any time to reach Shilparamam.  The railway station is at a distance of 25 kms from Hyderabad.

There are several attractions in the village of Shilparamam which gains the interest of its visitors. There is a Rural Museum which houses several life size models and sculptures to narrate the day to day activities of the rural people, who are committed to craft work. The Rock museum also consists of natural formations with various man made articrafts by Subroto Basu.

The recreational area in the green lawns is surrounded by terracotta sculptures which add to its beauty. Also do not forget to give the local cuisine a try. You will surely be craving for more. The amphitheater also hosts performances ranging from Bharatanatyam, flute recitals to Bhangra, flute recitals and plays. You can even get your portrait sketched at a minimal price of Rs.200 to Rs.500. You can choose if you wish the same in black and white or in color.  You can opt to get henna on your hands. You will have a lot of choices to choose from when it comes to getting a henna or tattoo here.

The number of shopping stalls present in the village of Shilparamam can easily cross over 100. Several items are available here ranging from handmade textiles, carpets, sarees as well as toys. In textiles, you can find a wide variety of options such as textiles from Kanjeevaram, Guntur, Tangail, Peddapuram, Bandar, Tanjovore, Paithni, Madurai, Sambalpur and Dharmavaram. You can also go through the local products made by the artisans in the artisan bazaar. Do not forget to visit the night bazaar which is open till 1 AM in the morning.
