Best Outdoor Eating in New Orleans

The New Orleans dining scene is one of the best in the US. From classic Southern soul food restaurants and traditional Cajun cuisine to exciting, innovative new chefs, NOLA is one of the most interesting foodie cities you can visit.

New Orleans is a big cruise port, and as you might expect with its warm climate and waterfront setting the city is blessed with a wide range of al fresco dining options. These are a few of the best outdoor restaurants you have to try if you are staying in New Orleans.

Station 6

Right on the shores of Lake Ponchartrain, the shaded patio out the back of Station 6 is one of the best places in the city for seafood. The ambiance might be rustic, but the food is anything but, with head chef Alison Vega-Knoll serving up a magnificent menu that will delight any fish lover. The seafood gumbo is a particular highlight and makes a great case to be called the best in town.

N7

Hidden away in Bywater just beyond Marigny and the French Quarter, N7 is about as trendy an eatery as you are likely to find anywhere. A fascinating fusion of French and Japanese cuisine based in an old tire shop, the gorgeous candlelit patio is one of the most atmospheric outdoor eating spots in New Orleans.

The Elysian Bar

If you fancy a more spiritual atmosphere while you eat, then the Elysian Bar might be perfect for you. Set in a tasteful and elegant renovation of a deconsecrated Catholic church, this excellent patio restaurant is part of the Hotel Peter and Paul, and offers a wonderful place to dine under the night sky. An innovative menu of small plates is complimented by a wonderful selection of cocktails, making this a fantastic choice for a sophisticated evening out.

Cane & Table

Located on one of the swankiest stretches of Decatur Street, Cane and Table offers a truly beautiful outdoor dining space in the heart of the French Quarter. This is a haven for vegetarians and pescatarians with an exceptional vegetable-heavy menu and delivers some pretty superb cocktails as well. With beautiful decor proving a tropical paradise meets Hawaiian tiki-chic ambiance, this is one of the finest open-air eateries around.

Cafe Amelie

Another wonderful French Quarter fave, Cafe Amelie is perfect for a romantic dinner or laid-back brunch. The central courtyard is filled with greenery and the menu never fails to impress. Its patio heaters also make it a wonderful option for a cozy winter date night!
